The DuBois Area School District became aware on Monday, February 4, 2019, that a student at our DuBois Area High School has contracted chickenpox (varicella), and other children may have been at risk of exposure. Because the virus that causes chickenpox spreads easily, exposed children who have never had the vaccine or disease will most likely get the disease. Although chickenpox is not usually a serious illness, it can cause severe complications. Even a relatively mild illness can result in the loss of a week or more of class time for a student. Please take a moment to read the letter from the DASD superintendent, and be sure to review the chickenpox fact sheet for more details about chickenpox and how it can affect your child.
