Karen Judeich has lived in Treasure Lake for 10 years. Originally from the Bellefonte area, she grew up on a dairy farm in Centre County, and moved to the Lake after receiving her Doctorate in Physical Therapy from Washington University in St. Louis School of Medicine in 2009. She is Center Manager and physical therapist at NovaCare Rehabilitation in DuBois.
Formerly known as KeyStone Physical Therapy, NovaCare is a division of Select Medical, the largest therapy provider in the country and recognized as one of the Best Managed Companies in America by Forbes Magazine, according to Wikipedia. Keystone Rehabilitation systems originated in Indiana, PA and expanded to at least 70 clinics in Western Pennsylvania and enjoyed almost 30 years in DuBois before becoming NovaCare Rehabilitation.
NovaCare offers personalized care and an individual experience with therapy treatment. The evaluations are based on the movement system and patients are taught corrective exercises to prevent recurrent problems. Aquatic therapy, kinesiotaping, pediatric treatment, work injury treatment, as well as, concussion and vertigo treatment and testing, are also offered.
Karen added that area runners might also be excited to learn that, “in the Fall we plan to roll out a running evaluation and performance program for competitive and recreational runners.”
When asked why she decided to become a physical therapist, Karen replied quickly, “I wanted to get in the medical field and found that physical therapy allows you to spend significant time building relationships with people and can make a difference in peoples lives just by changing habits or movement patterns versus medication or invasive treatments. I want the rehabilitative process [for my patients] to be informative, healing, and also fun!”
In addition to a clinic, NovaCare also offers a wellness store with products that can assist with home treatment including tape, ice packs, TENS units, etc. NovaCare is located at 470 Jeffers Street in DuBois. Stop in for a tour or call 814-371-0171 to make an appointment.
