Rumbarger Preservation Society Seeks Assistance to Preserve Historic Landmark

To whom it may concern:

Rumbarger Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in DuBois and houses much of our town’s rich history. It was founded by our town founder, John Rumbarger, and is all that survives of the original settlement of DuBois. Over the years it has become the final resting place for our town veterans including those who have fought in the Civil War, Spanish American War, World Ward I, Korean War, and World War II. It also houses members of the clergy, past mayors, as well as our family members, friends, and our neighbors.

Unfortunately, as is all too common, the years have taken their toll. As the Rumbarger Cemetery Preservation Society we have been dedicated to preserving this historical landmark, but that takes money and man power. Since forming in 2010 we have invest over $100,000 in the maintenance, upkeep, and improvement of the cemetery grounds. As a 501(c)(3) we survive solely on donations from area people and businesses as well as the hard work of our volunteers who work maintenance on the 8 acre cemetery after their own jobs and on their days off. We’ve stoned roads, replaced mausoleum roofs, maintained and watered urns, and have done countless landscaping projects – not just for our benefit, but for future generations as well. We pay electric bills, insurance, and have purchased our own landscaping supplies. But all of that adds up, and funds are running low.

Some of our more urgent current needs include installing a 12’x12′ cement pad for in front of the utility shed, a 5’x5′ cement pad for the port-a-san, a security system to help combat graffiti and vandalism, a gate at the back entrance of the cemetery to help put an end to drug related crimes happening on the grounds, and to get the electric fixed at the Soldier’s Circle. In order to get these projects accomplished, we are asking for your help with a monetary donation. Any assistance can go a long way in helping to preserve this historic landmark and we would be honored to add your name to our current list of donors and volunteers.

If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at 814-541-7552, rumbargersociety@yahoo.com or send your donation to Rumbarger Cemetary Preservation Society, PO Box 264, DuBois PA 15801.

We thank you in advance and appreciate your support and consideration of this request.

Sincerely,

Rumbarger Preservation Society
