Cook Forest Programs – Friday, August 2 at 900am – ‘Canoe & Kayak Fishing the National Wild & Scenic Clarion River: Cooksburg-Gravel Lick’. Come celebrate the Clarion River’s recent River of the Year designation at Cook Forest State Park who will be conducting a 4-mile guided interpretive fishing program for experienced canoeists & kayakers only. Smallmouth bass, trout, and walleye are often caught along this stretch of river if one is patient and using the right rig. We will begin promptly at the old Park Office. Remember to bring your fishing poles, license, and proper river footwear: flip-flops are bad, old ratty sneakers are good. Cost is $30/boat with check or money order made out to the ‘Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’. Lunch, as well as all canoeing & kayaking gear provided. Participants must pre-register by contacting the Park Office at (814)744-8407 no later than 7/31/19. Prior Cook Forest kayak training participants receive a 50% discount. Space is limited, so please reserve early. (5 hrs). Saturday, August 3 at 100pm – ‘Nature Walk’. Children and their families are invited to join park intern, Alicia Shawley, and meet at the Ridge Camp Playground to take a short interpretive hike through the forest near Ridge Trail. Frequent stops and varying activities will be scheduled to allow children to use their senses and to make observations of the world that surrounds them. Parking is available in the Extra Car Parking Area next to site 15. (1 hr).
The Winkler Gallery & Art Education Center will be holding a Sundae Sunday Ice Cream Social Fundraiser on Sunday, August 4 from 2 pm to 4 pm. Tickets are $20.00 or two for $35.00 and include Ice Cream Sundae served in a decorative “collect-a-bowl”, a dowel rod & instructions to upcycle into a bird feeder for your garden. Sag bags containing collect able, framed and hand signed mini-prints by our own Artists…..and more!! Children under 18 free and those under 17 will receive a free scoop of ice cream. Also, ticket will be used in a drawing for a framed print by wildlife artist, Guy Coheleach. Tickets available at the Winkler Gallery (375-5834).
August Afternoons at the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center. Every day from August 5-24, drop by the Weather Discovery Center between 11-3 to enjoy a free activity with regular admission. Backpack School Supply Drive – DONATIONS NEEDED – H&R Block is hosting a backpack-school supply drive for children in the DuBois-Brockway Area School District. The Bucktail Council, BSA is excited to host the 46th Annual Bucktail Classic on Friday, August 9, 2019 at Pinecrest Country Club in Brookville. This event helps to provide opportunities through Scouting to over 1500 youth in our area to become better leaders, citizens and to show them how important it is to give back to their communities.
