The DuBois Area Historical Society’s- Genealogy workshops continue Thursday, August 15, at 2 p.m., at the E. D. Reitz Museum, 28 W. Long Ave., DuBois. The presentation is entitled, “What I Learned from My Mother’s Roller Skate Case”. Faith Jack, librarian from the Shaler Area School District and a member of both the North Hills Genealogists, Armstrong County Historical Museum and Genealogical Society Inc., is the guest speaker.She explores her family tree by way of clues in the treasure trove of a roller skate case. She will share genealogy resources and discuss useful websites, helpful genealogical societies, and beneficial archives, giving attendees additional pathways to pursue.
Paint and Play School- Orientation Open House will take place August 15th, 5-7pm at the Nelson’s Golden Years location. Parent orientation folders will be available. Weekend Programs at Cook Forest State Park- Saturday, August 24that 9:00am- “Wilderness Survival”. Dust off your ferrule rods and meet us at the Log Cabin Inn Environmental Learning Classroom to learn various fire-starting techniques. We will then prepare our lunch and car-pool to the Black Bear Trail area to use our new-found fire-starting skills to cook our meal. Backpack School Supply Drive – DONATIONS NEEDED – H&R Block is hosting a backpack-school supply drive for children in the DuBois-Brockway Area School District. The Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre, Inc. (CAST) is excited to once again be offering its annual Seeds of Art Summer Camp for local students. The dates of this year’s camp are August 12-16. The morning session will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The afternoon session will run from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. Both sessions will be the same, and students can only register for one session. Only 45 students will be accepted into each session, and each session is already half full. Eligible students will be entering grades 2 through 7. Registration is $50 per student, or $40 per student with families who have more than one student participating. Registrations will be accepted at the CAST office on Monday, August 5 from 5:30-6:30. Children’s Aid Society in Clearfield County Children’s Aid Society’s Adoption and Foster Care Training and Support Group will hold sessions the third Monday of each month from 6-8 p.m. at 1008 South Second Street, Clearfield. The program is held in conjunction with the Relatives as Parents Program.
